Tips for Puppy mill rescued dog?

I just adopted a Chinese Sharpei mix from the Humane Society. She was rescued from a Puppy mill. She is about 3 years old and they said she has had two litters of puppys. I’ve never had a Chinese Sharpei or a dog that has spent her entire life in a cage. Does anybody have any tips that would help us ensure the rest of her life is a happy one?
I forgot to add that she is very shy and nervous.

The quicker you forget about her previous misery, the better she will be. I had a rescue dog that was badly beaten and very nervous. The more you move forward, on walks with training and life, the easier it will be for her to move forward with you. If you dwell in the past and what a terrible life she has had, she will get stuck there…

So head held high, leash on and off for a nice long walk every day, don’t baby her or let her get away with things you normally wouldn’t allow, set the rules and she will be a happy dog.

It bothers me when people talk about their dog that has been rescued years ago, the dog has moved on, they haven’t!

Thanks for saving this lucky pup and enjoy her!
